Frequently Asked Questions
General Services
What’s the difference between copyediting and developmental editing?
Copyediting focuses on grammar, punctuation, clarity, and consistency. It's the polish your manuscript needs once the story is solid. Developmental editing is a bigger-picture approach—it focuses on plot, structure, pacing, and character development. It's about shaping your story to be the best it can be.
How do I know what level of editing I need?
If you're not sure, that's okay! I offer free manuscript assessments and consultations. Together, we'll determine the best next step for your story and your goals.
How much do your editing services cost?
My current rates are:
Copyediting: $0.03 per word
Line editing: $0.04 per word
Proofreading: $0.02 per word
Developmental editing: By inquiry
All services include light communication, optional feedback summaries, and clear turnaround timelines.
What’s included in your coaching sessions?
Each session is tailored to your project and your current stage in the process. We might work on outlining, overcoming writing blocks, developing characters, or improving your storytelling craft. Coaching is a blend of practical tools and positive, encouraging support.
Do I need to have a finished draft to start coaching?
Not at all! Coaching is ideal at any stage—whether you have an idea, a messy middle, or a complete draft in need of direction.
Can you help me publish my book once it’s done?
Yes. I offer optional publishing services that include formatting, cover design sourcing, ISBN setup, and more. Whether you're planning a private family book or want to release it publicly, I'll guide or manage the process with care.
Will my book be published under your imprint?
No. I don't publish other authors' books under my imprint. You'll maintain complete control and can publish under your own name or a custom imprint.
Will I keep the rights to my book?
Yes—always. Whether I edit, coach, or help publish, you retain full rights to your manuscript and creative work.
Do you work with first-time writers?
Absolutely. Many of my clients are writing their first book—or the one they've been dreaming about for years. You don't need to know it all. You just need to be ready to begin.
How do I get started?
You can start by filling out a contact form or inquiring about a free discovery call. From there, I'll learn more about your project, address your questions, and suggest the best next steps to achieve your goals.
